I wish I could have a refund and get the 2 hours of my life back that I wasted trying to get this app to work.

too much info to populate. way too complicated. i was just looking for a snow ball plan.
This app is a great tool to help keep your finances organized and right in front of you. We are still inputing our "stuff" but it is great to see the different scenarios you can set-up to see how your money is being spent, as well as how quick or slow you are actually paying down debt. It calculates the information for you as you put it in so you dont have to, and it is really easy to navigate through the tabs. Well worth the $20!!
Just downloaded the program. It is easy to use, and most importantly, shows you how to drop your debt "like its hot". Very easy to use interface. My complaint, and my 3 star rating are for the following reason: Ive been using the program for a total of 5 hours now and it has CRASHED 8 times already. I guess Im lucky that I saved my data on a whim after 1 hour of usage, because I had a crash shortly thereafter. Word to the wise; save your work often, just in case. Bottom line; Debtinator is an amazing tool that every single person that has debt should be using. The program is definitely worth more than the $20 purchase price, but the guys and gals over at Debtinator HQ have to release a more stable update. Surprisingly about the features and abilities in this application. Just input your financial portfolio and it calculates a brighter financial outlook. Plenty of online and email support... For certain, this is the best financial software I have ever used...it is worth every penny.
Program is a good idea but there is room for improvement. My program keeps crashing and I cant seem to find a summary of each month. Price should be $5.
I have been using this app for years now, ever since my previous favorite, DebtMinder, was discontinued. First and foremost, the author of Debtinator has provided amazing support. Several times over the past few years, I have encountered scenarios that would cause the program to get stuck in an endless loop. The author was always able to work with me and provide me an update to resolve the issue. I only use some basic features of this app. I put in my monthy expenses. I enter my bank accounts. I put in my credit accounts (cards, car loans, etc.). After all the work is done (interest rates, minimum payment requirements, etc.), it is very simple to let it run for a few minutes and show you how fast you can be debt free. It can give you the "best/fastest" way, where it will spend every last dime you have paying down highest interest debts first, or you can see how many lifetimes it will take to pay off at just "minimum monthly payments." It also lets you manually select the priority of accounts. I do it this way, so my "working card" gets paid to zero every month. It is very flexible, and so far, anything I have wondered if it could do, I have been shown a way to do it. Being able to see this light at the end of the tunnel makes my debt situation seem far less hopeless. ;-) You can also experiment and see what impact extra income would do (I can quickly add an extra $200/month and see how much faster I pay off -- perhaps a part time job would be woth it, eh?). I have yet to find anything better on the Mac for this type of calculation. It is easily one of the most important pieces of software I use.
I love the app!!! Just started using it and it works, but keeps crashing and I lose my work. Also the colored writing is hard to read, even that I am not color blind. Wish you could have a planning option without adding a bank account to estimate without figuring out how much you get paid snce a lot of us get a different paycheck every month. Other thn that, I recommend this app if you want to take control of your finances. Hopefully an update fix my concerns.
Great program for budgeting. Ive tried to budget through my bank program and on my own on paper (thats laughable). This program is really great! I did have a few issues trying to set up a few things, but like someone else said, I sent an email with a problem and got an immediate response from the owner of the program. He was super helpful and explained things in terms that I could understand. Thanks, Jim. Great product!!
I was looking for that function longtime ago. This program is different about other personal financial apps such as (iBank, Money) I use them both. If youre looking for a day to day personal financing program and connecting with your bank thats not the right one. I use Debtinator to be a Debt Free! Put your debts ahead and youll got a good scenario to kill it. Personally, I like the program a lot and really usefull to me.
Customer Support issue was simple miscommunication. Issue has been resolved. Thanks Jim. Still using product weekly if not daily, and still feel it is the best product out currently for debt management! Hopefully will continue to build upon and improve.
This app is so stupid! I wish I could get a refund because it crashes everytime I use it. Get the free version bc it is better!!!!!!
ADDENDUM TO MY ORIGINAL REVIEW (written below): It did take two weeks to hear back from Jim, but when I did he was very apologetic and helpful, saying he had been out of town. He answered all of my questions but by that point I was kind of over it, and looking for other programs to use. He wrote me again a few weeks later seeing if he could earn my business back and letting me know that the updated version had fixed some of the bugs I had had issues with. I havent had a chance to try the new version yet, but I just wanted to update my review and let everyone know that Jim seems like a very hard-working guy who has integrity and owns up to his mistakes. Customer support is crucial when you are putting your financial freedom essentially in someone elses hands, and Jim has earned back my trust. I know that the program will only continue to improve, and I am looking forward to giving it another shot! ORIGINAL REVIEW: First of all, I was very excited to try this program. I have struggled for a long time to get control of my debts, and after researching the different programs (Money, iBank, etc), I downloaded the free version of Debtinator. It worked fine but is very basic and I needed to be able to make budgets and track income and expenses. I bought the full version and after countless hours inputing my data it crashed. I went back in and did it all over again and saved periodically. I created a scenario and then was updating my Ledger when it gave me an error saying I ran out of money, and that I needed to run a new scenario. However, the app would not change from the ledger screen to let me go do that. No matter what I clicked on, it wouldnt let me leave the Ledger screen. I tried saving and it said it couldnt save because it could not merge the changes. I realize this is a fairly new program and has some kinks to be worked out, so I set it aside and emailed the creator. Two weeks later and I still havent heard back from him. I eventually had to exit the program and of course it hasnt saved any of the new stuff I put in. I tried one more time to use it, but it crashed again and lost everything. The worst part is that I got absolutely no technical support. You could have kept my business if you had just written me back, but since time is a-wastin, and debt is still accruing, Im switching to Money.
The program is well designed and works great, but the customer service is outstanding, they returned emails within minutes, i have most of the programs out there for debt planning and non of them are as good, try the free version and you,ll buy the full version.
I read the reviews, had my doubts, and decided to bite the built and spend the $ to purchase this product. I have say it is worth every penny. The only downside in my opinion is myself. I need to make sure to detail every income, and expense (bills, credit cards, etc.. ) in order to full use all the features of this product. I spend the last hour inputting all my financial information. I have a very clear idea of what to pay, and when to pay it. Im using the software "transfer" option to track my deposits into savings accounts, and stocks, and between multiple bank account. Good bye excel.. Thank you!
This is such a great tool. Id highly recommend viewing the tutorial videos first to get things set up correctly. Once you do that, this program really is outstanding. Its easy to manipulate scenarios and change strategies to see what will work best to fit your needs. Best $19.99 you could ever spend if youre serious about getting ahead financially!
This app has been VERY helpful in showing me that YES I can get out of debt, and in a timely fashion. It is all well and good to talk about the Snowball...but this app remembers the annual Long Term Care Insurance premium, and keeps things ticking along in a solvent fashion. When I had a couple of questions, Jim was VERY helpful in getting me thru the issue. Worth every penny!
After spending over two hours inputing data I tried to run a debt payoff scenario….the app crashed I lost everything. Great Job Dude…!!!
I’ve been using debtinator for many years now. Over the years, I’ve had a few issues with updates (most of them have been my fault). Jim has been very quick to respond to emails and help fix my problems. On at least 1 occassion, I had helped discover a bug that he had fixed with an update available within just a few hours of reporting the issue. As a software engineer, I understand what goes into software like this and I couldn’t ask for better customer service or a better product.
I recently upgraded to Version 3.4.2 and re-entered all my information, set up scenarios and all, though it took quite a bit of time. For those getting ready to upgrade or unaware of your Macs automatically upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.1, be aware that there a likely chance that you will be unable to open your files after upgrading. I was disappointed to see that the same error message has now been showing up when I go to open my file(s). "Persistent store migration failed, missing mapping model.” Has anyone had this issue recently since the last iOS update to 10.10.1? Is there any solution to this besides having to re-enter everything again!!? Other than that, the product is golden!
